A full house of famous character actors from the '30s and '40s makes this a delight for fans of the genre.

I can't believe no one's brought up that Wanda's real name was Dorothy Quackenbush : could be a name for a porno actress in a wizard of oz spoof.

This is a very droll movie. Between George Zucco's playful long stares, too the campy dialogue, to the bad continuity (at 34 min Andy is in a slicker and rain hat and somehow in his panic to reach Mr. Barnes they fall off). Many chuckles in this movie, intelligent understated humour.

This is an excellent print with great sound track. Nice twists to the story. I enjoyed this movie very much.

It's true that 28 year old Wanda McKay "couldn't act her way out of a paper bag" as one reviewer put it, but she is the prettiest little thing to watch. Great face and body, with just enough baby fat to make her cute as a button. Who cares if she can't act? I'm sure the producers thought the same and I thank them for that. Cute!!! Hoagy Carmichael was one lucky guy who I'm sure died happy.

Wanda does a little better as a nurse in "The Bowery at Midnight" @ :http://archive.org/details/Bowery_at_Midnight (1942), with Bela Lugosi, another film worth watching.

George Zucco was the only actor who could look sinister just breathing. He had a wonderfully deranged screen presence, used to good effect here. Wanda Mckay is a pleasing eyeful. Good supporting cast. Dopey script and zero production values. Not a lick of sense anywhere, but those who love these dark rainy night, poverty row chillers will find it a pleasant enough time-waster.

This film was entertaining even if it was obvious the mousy little coward embezzler was the initial killer because process of elimination pegged him early on, but the cat and mouse game was fun to watch wondering if anyone would escape alive other than the young couple. They had to get away because that's always the case in these types of films..boy gets girl..to simple there. The greedy Mugsy type creep had to get knocked off and the dumb lummox was just to likable stupid to get killed and the sheriff never gets killed, just beat up. They never ever kill off sheriffs in these films. it's sacrilegious to kill cops when they're hot on the wrong trail in these movies leaving only two guys, the good/bad guy, the Black Raven to leave us wondering about and his nemesis...the original opening characters in the whole movie. So with that I won't say which one gets killed or do they both buy the same farm? Only your hairdresser really knows or maybe I'm leading you in circles because it's funner to do that..You'll just have to watch the movie to decide.

One of the better George Zucco films. It has three different storylines that end up in a surprise ending. Also has an interesting list of very good actors playing side characters. Very much worth a watch if you like murder mysteries. Enjoy!
